Hon. Prime Minister of Samoa Mr. Tuilaepa extended his warm congratulations to the successful completion of Siumu Primary School. He spoke highly of the the quality of the construction and the high efficiency of the Chinese workers. He warmly praised the state-of-art design and construction of the Chinese engineers and technicians as well as their devotion and professionalism. Mr. Tuilaepa asked Ambassador Wang Xuefeng to convey the sincere thanks from the Samoan government and people to the Chinese government and people.
During his speech at the ceremony, Ambassador Wang Xuefeng said that after the old Siumu Primary School was virtually destroyed by the disastrous Cyclone Evan in 2012, at the request of the Samoan government, the Chinese government agreed to provide a grant aid for the building of a new Siumu Primary School in April 2014. After 18 months of hard work by more than 40 Chinese engineers, technicians and workers, we are happy to see the brand-new two-storey modern Siumu Primary School, a new landmark of China-Samoa friendship with 16 classrooms which covers a total land area of 2376 square meters.
Ambassador Wang Xuefeng continued to remark that at this exciting moment, we want to express our thanks to the strategic leadership of the leaders of both China and Samoa which have resulted in fruitful achievements in practical cooperation in various fields. We especially want to express our sincere thanks to all the engineers, technicians and workers of Hunan Construction Corporation who may have left their hometown and their own children and wife and other family members behind in China and traveled all the way over thousands of miles across the Pacific Ocean to devote themselves whole-heartedly to the building of Siumu Primary School by overcoming many many difficulties including unfavorable rainy season and transportation problems.
Ambassador Wang Xuefeng said, "The meaning of the Chinese Translation of the word --修睦(Xiumu), is coincidentally the exact pronunciation as Siumu in Samoan. The Chinese word 修睦(Xiumu) means keep one's words and pursue harmony. What a appropriate translation it is for the School which is the result of friendship between the two countries! It it important to keep one's words and pursue harmony not only for peoples but also for countries. In fact, this is the principle that Chinese people have pursued for thousands of years and it has also become one of the principles in China's foreign policy and foreign aid. China and Samoa have always been good friends and good partners and are both good models in keeping our words and pursuing harmony. In this sense, the completion of Siumu Primary School is just like the best gift for the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic relations of China and Samoa. I sincerely hope that students from Siumu Primary School will contribute to the friendship between China and Samoa so that it can be maintained generation after generation."
Mr. Asuao Tupuola Simaile Pala Faalogo, Chairman of the School Committee expressed the gratitude to the great Chinese people on behalf of all the teachers and students and all the residents in the Siumu area. "We are excited and humbled with such a blessing and kindness shown to us. No word or speech no matter how brilliant it may be can do no justice in the expression of our sincerity and appreciation to the government and people of the People's Republic of China," he remarked in his speech at the ceremony.
All the students were so overjoyed that they danced and sang to their hearts' extent to express their gratitude to the Chinese people.
Prime minister Tuilaepa opened the plate of Siumu Primary School together with Ambassador Wang Xuefeng and they jointly planted a Mango tree on campus to wish the fruitful results of China-Samoa friendship, the the happy life of the young students and the sweet dreams of the people of the two countries.
